Isn’t it amazing the shear number of things that we’ll attempt to take on in one day? Today for instance I have 4 kids still on Winter Break, I have 3 articles to write, a mini-vacation for 10 to plan, three consulting calls, two consultations, plus laundry to do and dinner to figure out.
Our schedules are busy enough as it is when it comes to work commitments and taking care of the family, so why is it that we frequently consider ourselves to be a jack of all trades, loading our daily schedules with all kinds of difficult and burdensome tasks?
A case in point may be an upcoming High School Reunion or something similar. Maybe it’s time for you to coordinate a school reunion or a major family reunion to celebrate an occasion. On the one hand you might think that a family get-together is rather informal, but there’s certainly nothing “informal” about the amount of work required to make sure it all goes off without a hitch.
But even this type of event can pale into insignificance when it comes to the amount of work and effort required to plan a wedding. Some brides and grooms may consider the overall planning of their happy day to be a part of the “fun” of it all. Yet surely, there is enough pressure whether we like it or not involved with the overall process of getting married without having to worry about the hundreds of different things that could go wrong on the big day if you’re not careful.
This is why it’s a good idea to engage the services of a Virtual Assistant to help you with your event planning needs as and when they materialize. (Disclaimer: my first “business” was a wedding planner. I sucked so bad that I quit before I ever started and eloped with my fiance to Las Vegas so I didn’t have to plan even my OWN wedding!) If you sit down and think about it, it’s amazing just how many events will come up during the calendar year, from big to small. Each one of these requires careful attention if you want to avoid the additional work, hassle and potential heartbreak associated with incomplete or ill-conceived plans down the road.
There are literally a ton of stages involved in planning an event. Negotiations need to be made with several potential venues for example to see which one is best and which one fits within the budget. All kinds of individual products and services may need to be sourced and arrangements made for their delivery. The guest list may need to be compiled, invitations created, a rooming list updated and all of this needs to be maintained in real time.
This may require a certain amount of finesse online. Remember that social media is increasingly important when it comes to advertising your event, even within just your family circles. Your Virtual Assistant is in her (or his) element online and can certainly help you to stage and manage the event virtually as well as in real time.
As the event approaches it’s an unfortunate fact of life that you can expect last-minute alterations and dramas. You really don’t want to be dealing with those if you are the bride or groom at your wedding, but equally you don’t want to be bogged down in trying to find a solution in terms of any event you’re planning. Your Virtual Assistant has far more dexterity and problem solving ability than you do in these situations, if you’re honest with yourself.
At Virtual Assistant Chick my chick’s have a wide range of skills. We even partner with a few VA’s who are event planning experts, and will take care of you every step of the way.
